Red Bull Free Gaff
Red Bull Free Gaff
This was an exciting project that involved designing the look and feel of the visuals for Red Bull’s Free Gaff - house party in Ireland.
The event was hugely successful in its first year and continued to grow in popularity this year with many of Dublin and Ireland’s key social media influencers present. The lineup included many of Irelands greatest up and coming bands and DJs and it was marked as one of the coolest new events to take place in the city that year.
I pitched 3 rough concepts with mood boards.
The 3 concepts were:
1 - A literal “Free Gaff”, based around a cartoon character image of a house running free in full party-mode. The look of this idea was going to be quite classical-cartoon inspired. It also had the added potential of having this animatable character popping up and running around on social media posts
2 - Colloquial sayings heard at a free gaff in Ireland. This was a more niche approach, using common phrases that you would hear at a free gaff party in Ireland (and more specifically Dublin). The posters were going to be snapshots from the party where you would find someone saying these phrases with the fonts baked into the imagery in what would have been a pop-art style, full of vibrant colours and engaging type.
3 - A movie poster style image as if the event were a motion picture coming up to release. The look I went for in the end is a very poplar motif in design platforms such as Pinterest and Deviant Art, with many artist creating their own versions of Iconic Movie Posters. Similarly, the idea was to create an Iconic movie poster, inspired by Psycho juxtaposing the ominous outline of the house from its connotations of horror, to the pure freedom and fun of a house party.
